Kara Westlake
Kara Westlake is an 18-year-old student in her second year of Forensic Science and Criminology at the University of Windsor. From a young age, Kara has been passionate about helping others and is dedicated to a career focused on enhancing community safety. As a multi-sport athlete with a deep love for hockey, she has spent countless hours on the ice and in the training room, demonstrating her commitment as both a leader and a competitor.In 2022, Kara earned a spot at the Team Ontario training camp, where she grew her skills in leadership and teamwork with the support of her coaches, teammates, and family. Beyond athletics, Kara has been actively involved in her community, participating in numerous fundraisers and volunteer initiatives. During high school, she was an advocate for Jack.org, a mental health charity, where she addressed the impact of media on self-perception and societal standards.
Kara is passionate about challenging harmful media portrayals and promoting a more inclusive definition of beauty and self-worth. She believes in empowering individuals to embrace their true selves, free from the constraints of societal expectations. Eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, depression and so much more are harmful effects of social media. We are taught that athletes need to be tough, but dancers shouldn’t be muscular. Kara is here to prove that the media should never tell you who you are. As a contestant for Miss Tecumseh, Kara is committed to fostering body confidence, self-love, and empowerment, because she believes that no one should navigate their journey alone.
